Protesters marched through the streets of downtown Austin Tuesday as part of the nationwide 50501 Movement’s organizing effort to denounce the Trump administration’s actions since the president’s inauguration. Demonstrators addressed issues including the need for continued support for Ukraine, dissatisfaction with the role Elon Musk has played in the administration and anger over the administration’s rhetoric around diversity, equity and inclusion practices. The drummers continued playing throughout the entirety of the march. Justin Doud/TSTV NewsThe crowd reached well over 200 people at its peak, with some chasing blown off hats or signs as a result of Tuesday’s high winds throughout the Texas Hill Country. Later in the day, a dust storm blew through Austin, casting a haze over the city skyline. Justin Doud/TSTV NewsKristin Jenn, a former park ranger at Denali National Park and Preserve, had a permanent National Park Service job offer at another park rescinded two days after the inauguration as part of the Department of Government Efficiency’s federal restructuring efforts. Now, Jenn attends protests in the Austin area in her National Park Service uniform to call attention to the firings, despite the risk it poses to her as an illegal action.
