FIJI — Season six of “Love Island USA” came to a wrap on Sunday as the islanders found out who was taking home $100,000.
After six weeks of love, heartbreak, surprises and dreamy dates, one couple came out on top among them all and decided to split their cash prize.
The pair stood hand in hand in matching outfits — one in a hot pink gown and the other in a hot pink suit, as host Ariana Madix, “Vanderpump Rules” star, gave the final verdict.
That couple — Serena Page, Houston native and University of Texas at San Antonio alumna, and Kordell Beckham, brother of NFL player Odell Beckham Jr. and also from Houston — made us Texans proud.
The couple gathered the most votes across America, or, the “Love Island USA” mobile app, that is. They had voluntarily paired together since the start of the season on June 11. In the season finale, all final four couples confessed their love for one another, standing on a heart-shaped stage in the center of the villa.
However, not everything about Serena and Kordell’s relationship was picture perfect. Episode 25 was the start of a bad storm, with the boys quickly packing their bags to leave the villa after an invite to “Casa Amour” — a second villa filled with all new bombshells.
Kordell was immediately surrounded by beautiful women, one in particular, Daia McGhee, wanting to win him over. He ultimately realized that Serena was the only one for him, but this didn’t come easy. Serena had to let her guard down again to trust him, calling herself a “slow burner” when it came to love.
The other three couples that made it to the finale were Kendall Washington and Nicole Jacky in fourth place, JaNa Craig and Kenny Rodriquez in third place, and Leah Kateb and Miguel Harichi in second place.
Leah, originally from Calabasas, California, gained the most social media following. After entering the villa at the start of the summer with around 6,000 Instagram followers, she came out with over one million.
Honorable Texas mentions are Kendall and Kenny, who reside in Dallas.
We can only hope that these couples continue to explore their relationships and show up to the “Love Island USA” season six reunion, airing on Aug. 19 on Peacock.
